1. All media are construction:
What elements go into the construction of the media?
What elements are used to construct it?
What does it take to actually make it?

2. The media construct reality:
Whose version of reality is reflected?
What do the media say about the way the world works?
How does this alter our personal understanding of society?

3. Audiences negotiate meaning in the media:
How are you perceiving the media based on your past experience and attributes?
What parts of the media could be interpreted differently if looking from a different perspective?


4. Media have commercial implications:
Who paid for the media?
What is the company that created the media?
What are they promoting in the media?
Who is making profit?

5. Media contain ideological and value messages:
What is valued in the media?
What is it saying about what is being displayed in the media? ( ex: relationship, the role of women, the acceptance of authority, and unquestioning patriotism. )
What ideology does it contain?


6. Media have social and political implications:
What are some social norms for the time the media was created?
What is being said about the social issues?
What is being said about the political issues?
Is the media endorsing any particular political party?


7. Form and content are closely related in the media:
How is it beneficial to the content to deliver it through this medium?
What is the form?
What’s the content?

8. Each medium has a unique aesthetic form:
How is it laid out? (Ex; the rule of thirds in photographs)
Does it catch the target audience’s attention?
Is it aesthetically pleasing?


1. All media are construction:
What elements go into the construction of the media? Hired actors, constructed set, take picture, edit on computer, print in magazine
What elements are used to construct it? Paper, ink,
What does it take to actually make it? Computer, actors, photographers, props, crew, and other equipment.

2. The media construct reality:
Whose version of reality is reflected? Male adolescent
What do the media say about the way the world works? Attractive young people are in a relationship, mans legs are not necessarily attached on to the body,

3. Audiences negotiate meaning in the media:
How are you perceiving the media based on your past experience and attributes? We assume they are in a relationship because their body language suggests this.
What parts of the media could be interpreted differently if looking from a different perspective? Some people may interpret these two people as friends or siblings.


4. Media have commercial implications:
Who paid for the medium? Axe
What is the company that created the media? An unknown advertisement agency hired by axe.
What are they promoting in the media? Axe body spray.
Who is making profit? The ad agency, as well as axe.

5. Media contain ideological and value messages:
What is valued in the media? Half dressed women, relationships, youth, beauty, city life.
What is it saying about what is being displayed in the media? ( ex: relationship, the role of women, the acceptance of authority, and unquestioning patriotism. ) They are saying that relationships are good, that they are between a man and a woman of the same age and that mannequins are sexually attractive.



6. Media have social and political implications:
What is being said about the social issues? A relationship is between a man and a woman of the same race and age.

7. Form and content are closely related in the media:
How is it beneficial to the content to deliver it through this medium? Depending on which magazine the ad is presented in. It’s likely to be in a magazine that appeals to men which is their main demographic.
What is the form? A magazine ad.
What’s the content? Axe body spray.

8. Each medium has a unique aesthetic form:
How is it laid out? (Ex; the rule of thirds in photographs) The ad uses the rule of thirds and puts all the action on a line.
Does it catch the target audience’s attention? Yes, because the man’s legs are detached which is unusual to see and it features attractive people which will catch the viewer’s attention.
Is it aesthetically pleasing? Yes it is laid out well and has attractive colors, actors etc.
